A New Career Field Is Evolving With Education Technology
The evidence is as plain as the monitor screen in front of you. Computer technology is rapidly changing the entire education landscape, from kindergarten all the way through online colleges.
These days every school desk is coming equipped with a computer terminal as well as pencils, paper and text books. Virtual education is not just the domain of online colleges and vocational schools anymore. These days every state, local and home school is installing their own educational system. Because of this, there’s a new profession springing out of the melee. If you need more information about online it degree. look on the internet.
With this new profession is also coming a new educational tract for those who want to be part of this education revolution. They can now get a Masters of Science in Educational Technology. People who get this post-grad degree are trained to evaluate all the new educational software, hardware and support materials being produced. They also help design and test new educational systems. The growth is coming so fast the degree is already splitting into two sub-disciplines. The first is for students from kindergarten through high school. The other is for adults entering the military, a vocational program or other form of higher education.
Anyone who wants to enter this field should already have a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology or something related. A few years work experience in the field will probably go a long way when deciding what school, where to specialize and other factors are concerned. It should be noted many schools offering this course are still very new at it, so a little research before matriculating is also advised. Many resources are available when researching degrees online.
After selecting one’s school, one should expect many of their core courses to revolve around the most recent advances in educational systems. They should also expect a general overview of basic teaching principles. Just about every school offering this degree option says one should have their Masters within 1-2 years. If they go on for their PhD, that will take longer.
Still, after completing the program, there appears to be an incredible number of occupational opportunities out there. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth in the field will be 22% over the next decade. That is twice the speed of growth of the average job. This is due to not only the growth in online education and just about every K-12 school adding computer systems, but also due to the growth in home schooling.
Considering this is a very young field, the Bureau openly admits it has to do more research regarding salaries. At best, it estimates the average salary for someone with one of these degrees is between $56,000 and $60,000 a year. Because one of the biggest employers of these people are state and local educational systems, the benefits package should be similar to teachers and school administrators, and that’s highly dependent on the state. Understanding all you can about online accredited degrees may be the key to your success.
Again, what definitely is undeniable is how more and more schools are using the internet and the Web as part of their education system. Because of this it’s created a growing demand for people with Education Technology degrees.
