Princeton Review Party Schools 2010 Crowns University Of Georgia
Princeton Review party school rankings were issued Monday. Princeton Review rated University of Georgia No 1 in its well known party school rankings. University of Georgia officials pointed to how their school placed in the more acceptable categories published in Princeton Review college ratings. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Mormon school Brigham Young University topped the list of "Stone-cold sober schools" for the 13th consecutive year.
UGA no stranger to the party school list
UGA has appeared in the Princeton party school ratings 10 times since the list began in 1992. The university claimed the top spot for the first time this year. The small town of Athens, Ga. , as outlined by the Associated Press, has about 100 bars surrounding the UGA campus. Parties are part of the students' routine from August through May. For numerous students the weekend begins on Thursdays and doesn't end until class on Monday Morning. A UGA spokesperson told AP that any school would be troubled by making the top of the list. He would rather emphasize the fact that other Princeton Review college rankings for instance the top 50 "Best Values" list and also the "Green Honor Roll" of probably the most environmentally conscious campuses integrated UGA.
State universities dominate the Princeton party school list
When the Princeton Review party school rankings were released, freshmen boys and girls bound for the University of Georgia probably got a little more excited, reports AOL News. Following the usual pattern, state schools make up many of the top 10 in 2010. Coming in just behind UGA was Ohio University in nearby Athens. Georgia beat out Pennsylvania State University, West Virginia University and University of Florida - which were the top Princeton party schools over the last three years.
UGA's recent history earns its Princeton party school ranking
UGA topped the Princeton party school rankings despite launching various initiatives to curb student drinking and temper the school's party image. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the university has instituted tougher sanctions against students caught drinking, and it has tightened UGA tailgating rules for football game-days. After a September 2009 football game, UGA tailgaters trashed the school's historic North Campus with about 70 tons of garbage. Intoxicated revelers were seen urinating and defecating on the campus grounds. Adding insult to injury, last month athletic director Damon Evans stepped down after a drunken driving arrest. Prior to that, Evans had appeared in university public service announcements urging individuals not to drink and drive.
